Pick up food at Ute Gulch
This is a long, but not particularly difficult day. Stick to an easy pace and enjoy the spectacular scenary.
Pass the Demonstration Forest (great views) at about 1 mile. Begin climbing about 1/2 mile later along several switchbacks and summit at Window Rock for even better views at about the 2-1/2 mile point. Hike on through Hidden Valley, then turn north through Aspen Springs camp and descend sharply. Reach Ute Gulch commissary about 6-1/2 miles from Cathedral Rock Camp and pick up food for the next 4 days. Retrace your steps back through Aspen Springs, then take the south fork and head for Cimarroncito, about 1/2 mile away.
Destination Info
Cimarroncito is a staffed camp with rock climbing, rappelling, and a boulder wall. Excellent showers with generous times for youth and adult/male and female.
Activities Enroute
The Demonstration Forest is an easy walk with sevaral benches and information signs. The view across Cimarroncito Reservoir is beautiful. Unless you get a late start (a bad idea given how long today is), you will probably not be ready for a long break.
