Itinerary 1
Challenging 58 miles
Hiking time: 33:50
Day 5 Details
Cyphers Mine to Mt Phillips Camp
6.2 miles Time: 4:28
Gain: 3,071 ft Loss: 735 ft
The biggest climb of the itinerary with more than 3,000 ft of total elevation gain - but this is the easy direction up Mt Phillips (believe it or not). It's also a totally dry day ending at a dry camp. Consider having your hot meal at Cyphers Mine before leaving to minimize water needs. Plan for 8 waterless miles (unless you take the alternative route to Red Hills) before you reach Clear Creek tomorrow.
Switchback slowly up through Thunder Ridge Camp, then through Comanche Peak Camp and on to Mt Phillips Camp.
Destination Info
Mt Phillips is a dry trail camp.
Nearby Camps
Water is available at Red Hills camp about 1.25 miles and 900 feet downhill from Comanche Peak.
Alternative Routes
You may choose to side hike to and from Comanche Peak to Red Hills Camp for water. This would add 2-1/2 miles distance and 900 feet of elevation gain and loss to the route.
