Cyphers Mine
Staffed Camp
Elevation 9,367 ft
Description
Most of Cyphers Mine camp is a collection of three-sided Adirondak cabins along the south bank of the North Fork Cimarroncito Creek. There is no space for tents - campers sleep in the cabins. To the west of the main cabin is a shower house with a wood-fired water heater (though wood to fire the heater is scarce, so a refreshingly cold shower is likely). Across the creek from the main cabin is the Stomp evening show.
Activities
Blacksmithing, pan for gold, gold mine tour (claustrophobics beware), and Stomp evening show. There are sometimes staff geologists on the cabin porch with interesting stories about the Philmont geology. Showers generally available.
Water
Water is plentiful from Cimarroncito Creek.
Nearby Camps
There are no other staffed camps within a mile of Cyphers Mine. Lamberts Mine and Thunder Ridge are trail camps within 2-3 trail miles.
Trails
Cross the creek and turn west, then north and swtchback up the ridge to Thunder Ridge Camp and on to Mt Phillips.
Cross the creek and turn east, then follow the creek downhill to Hunting Lodge and points east.
Stay on the south side of the creek, passing through the length of the camp, then turning south to Lamberts Mine and on to Comanche Pass.
