An up and down (roughly equal elevation gain and loss) day with an excellent trail-building conservation project along the way.
Head south from Comanche Creek and bear west after about 1-3/4 miles to Crooked Creek. Investigate homesteading, then continue along the pleasant Crooked Creek valley.
Just over 1/2 mile from the homestead, bear south along the ranch boundary and do your conservation project near Bear Creek source. Make sure you plan for 3 hours of conservation work (or plan to do it on your layover day, tomorrow). Continue downhill and south to Apache Springs where you will pick up food and have a layover.
Apache Springs is a staffed camp with excellent water, 3D archery, sweat lodge, and information about Jicarilla Apache life. This is your layover camp, so you get 2 days at Apache Springs.
Homesteading at Crooked Creek.
Conservation near the source of Bear Creek. Note conservation projects are generally available only at specific times in the morning and afternoon - plan your hike accordingly. Check at logistics and again at Crooked Creek for times.
