Cathedral Rock
Trail Camp
Elevation 7,428 ft
Description
Cathedral Rock is a ranger training camp - the first trail camp a crew stays at as they begin their Philmont adventure. The camp is in a largely open meadow with a great view of Cathedral Rock to the west.
Activities
Ranger training: you ranger will make sure you know the Philmont way to camp including campsite organization, cooking, and bear safety.
Nearby Camps
There are no staffed camps reasonably near Cathedral Rock. Hunting Lodge is to the west (about 2 trail miles) and Clarks Fork is to the south (about 1-1/2 miles). Showers may be available at Clarks Fork
Trails
There is a dirt road going east and west from Cathedral Rock, but you probably want to avoid it - exposed, hot, and doesn't lead anywhere useful. The best trail exits camp to the south. The eastward branch heads to Cito Turnaround; the west fork leads around Cimarroncito Reservoir to Demonstration Forest (north) and Clarks Fork (south).
