A long day in terms of distance, but not too much time because it's mostly downhill. Don't expect to find water between Crater Lake and Abreu. You'll skirt the edge of Fowler Mesa for the first 3-1/2 miles, then drop 800 feet off the mesa in the next 2 miles. Abreu is a great place for a break, and the walk from Abreu to Zastrow is an easy stroll along open trail.
On the Way
Stop at Abreu for root beer at the cantina. Tour the Mexican homestead and make adobe bricks.
Destination Info
Zastrow is a staffed camp with land navigation, geocaching, Dutch oven dessert, and Rededication to Scouting ceremony. Showers may be available.
