Bear Canyon Turnaround provides access to ranger camps in the western part of the central Philmont area. In 2013, only Visto Grande used this trailhead.

Trails
The trail north from Bear Canyon Turnaround heads up Bear Canyon to Santa Claus and New Dean. The trail to the south crosses under the highway and over the Cimarron River to Visto Grande.
