Description
Head north from Abreu and quickly bear to the northeast, away from Aguila Camp and toward Stone Wall Pass. At about the 2-mile point, begin climbing sharply for 1/2 mile up to Stone Wall Pass (your high point for the day).
Bear right at the next two trail junctions and descend easily for the next 1-1/2 mile. At the 4-mile point, begin contouring to the northeast and pass Lovers Leap at 5 miles.
Descend from Lover Leap for a mile to Lovers Leap Turnaround, then climb to the west for 1-1/2 miles, past the Stockade, to Stockade Ridge Camp.
On the Way
There are no staffed camps after Abreu.
At about 2-1/2 miles, cross Stone Wall Pass with views of Urraca Mesa above to the east.
At about 5 miles, pass Lovers Leap with rocks to scramble over and views into South Fork Urraca Creek canyon.
Water
Potable water is available at Abreu and Stockade Ridge, but is not generally available on the route.
Alternate Routes
Near the 2-1/2 mile point, you could take the trail to the left instead of the right. It saves neither time nor distance and adds two short road walks.
